How It All Started

I was a banker with a young family. I wanted to own my time, make money and express my creativity. This desire took me on a journey of learning how to make jewelry and building Cornucopia, a premium handmade jewelry brand based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Over the past 15 years, Cornucopia has grown from my dining table to a well known, homegrown brand. Cornucopia jewelry designs have a global appeal and are retailed through our showrooms in prime areas in Lagos as well as online.

It all started with me learning a new skill. When you learn a skill, you can change your life. It has definitely changed mine.

Learning with Cornucopia was such a pleasant experience I must say. It's such a creative atmosphere that undoubtedly furnished my creative mind and I was able to design for myself a few pieces I'm so proud of. Their attention to detail is impeccable and their excellence in handmade quality jewelry is second to none. Their devotion to helping me learn contemporary jewelry making was all I needed.

I had always toyed with the idea of making Jewelry as a young woman.

Hadn’t thought much of it in the past few years- then the thought came back. I decided to buy a few things I saw on Amazon for Jewelry making. I must confess I had no clue what to do with them or how to go about it.

About a year later - the nice lady who handles the Lekki branch of Cornucopia sent me the notice to join the Jewelry course. I mulled it over for a couple of minutes - being an ‘Ijebu’ 😄

Then I signed up for the 3 modules.

I thought Learning a new skill after almost 6 decades on earth would be daunting. But this Jewelry making course was a joy ride. Not without its challenges though.

However, the lessons were clear and precise and easy to follow- I was able to make a peace after every lesson. It got my creative juices flowing-which gave me pleasure each time I finished a piece.

My young adult daughters have been my ‘testing ground’ for the pieces I have made and intend to continue getting better. I’m actually thinking of having a mini-exhibition sometime soon.

Thank you Mrs Abimbola Osunkunle for leading me on such an exciting and fulfilling journey.

I loved learning to make jewelry with Abimbola. As a professional teacher who is also a creative, I found her classes very organized and truly inspiring. I now enjoy making my own jewelry as a hobby, with the skills I learnt.
